Better than no map at all. But doesnt replace a decent topo map on paper, alas. Not very detailed. And it seems to harder to use and requires you download all these little maps now. You might do better with plain old Google Maps - in some respects you can get much more detailed information from there, which isnt saying a lot.

I tried to postpone updating this App but unfortunately it updated automatically when I upgraded my iOS. I’ve used it on someone else’s phone and hated it. Dislikes about the new update: -Can’t zoom out anymore without it going to the download maps screen which darkens the whole map. When we are out in the mountains, being able to zoom out is needed. It allows us to see and measure how far away our destination is. (IE. can no longer measure the distance from starting trailhead to Mt. Assiniboine) -Ruler tool. You can no longer measure long distances, it only works within the area of the map thats on your phone.It’s impossible to get the distance of travel from point a to b. -The “Find Me” feature glitches PLEASE bring the old ruler back and the zoom out feature. They’re soo useful in the mountains.

This latest version still gives elevation in feet. Is there an option somewhere to get metric units?

This is really great if youre more interested in a general purpose "get to know an area"map. It does allow you to approximately measure the length of a trail. It is restricted, however, to the quadrants used by the government in their maps, so in order to follow a particular trail you may have to download a map where only a tiny corner is useful to you. However, maps are also easily deleted when not needed. Zoom way way out to select the area and quadrants. Then zoom in to those quadrants to get topographical and trail details. I like it, but I dont know if Id rely on it on a trail (but who brings their iPad on a hike anyway?)

App is great, except when you try to download Toporama maps. After a couple minutes of trying to download that type of map, it gives me a pop up that says "Download Problem - There was a problem downloading a selected map. Please check your Internet connectivity." This problem occurred on two separate iPads and a iPhone on three separate internet connections while I tried to download Toporama maps of several different locations in Canada. I had no issues downloading Canada Base Map layers for the same locations. Please fix!

Look elsewhere for bloatware. Davids work is great. A well taught implementation of GPS mapping for hiking and backcountry skiing. Easy to use with quality public maps (Canada Base Map is my favorite) for recording and waypoint mapping. The integrated compass needle and locator icon shows an attention to efficient design and detail. My previous favorite was Motion-X GPS which seems to have evolved into a PC ish bloatware: spent more time fiddling with it then using it. Canada (Maps) pairs well with an ABC watch and a backup Map and Compass. I would pay 25$ for this product. Looking forward to trying the USA version in the ADKs next week

It leaves trail breadcrumbs and shows an elevation slice of the walk. It stores trails and depending on the map set used, Aldo displays paths. Dont know know it demands permanent access to location data rather than just "when app is in use" Dont know why topo maps no longer work. The other options work fine, but need the topo ones back please.

Very useful app if you go out into the bush a lot.planing a motorcycle trip to the Yukon and this app will be used everyday.

There are no instructions. Despite fiddling with it for an hour I am unable to get it to do anything but leave dots with a finger swipe. It did show my current altitude.

The title almost says everything that needs to be said. This app works quite well with its minimal but necessary features. This app has helped me out on more than one occasion. Highly recommended. Plus its free. Great product.

Great app... Its smooth and user friendly.... Totally recommend it

Not sure if my area is just extremely well documented, but this app is amazing. I dont go hiking without it anymore! Trails are accurate, and with a GPS dot that includes a compass, aligning the map with the trail is super helpful. If I find a hike that isnt marked, it allows for recording the hike, including elevation changes! If recording it drains batteries, but for occasional checking it works fantastic, even with airplane and low battery modes activated. Fantastic app!

I love this app. It does everything I need... For free :-). I use it to explore and create new trails. Its very useful. Now I have a few suggestions for the future: Flags to shrink with the map (i just disable them for now). Its too big on a zoom. Adding pictures connected to a waypoint. Metric system. But its totally awesome. Keep on the good work.

This app is perfect but with the update the flag dont work,always says invalid location
